I cant decide. I am leaning towards no since my codriver cannot make it, which means I will have to drive instead of tow.

I don't think my truck can make it over those mountains. Trailer is down for repairs, too...

The Vail Valley Tour... wow, where to begin?

We took nearly 500 pictures, trying to get all of the Texas Region racers. Gallery: http://vorshlag.smugmug.com/gallery/9157781_uiM5X

Lots of fun, but man, what a long tow! 16 hours one way for us there and 18 hours back, over the craziest steep grades I've ever tried to tow over in a gasoline powered truck.

At the event we had 175 entrants and there was some timing/cone confusion (hey, it is a Tour) but overall the event ran quickly. Weather was AMAZING for August. Even when it showed to be under 50°F it didn't "feel" cold. The hottest we saw was 82°F, but we never broke a sweat. Amazing.

The EVO had some handling issues (I'll talk about that in the EVO thread) but Amy still won STU-L. John and I were driving our butts off to maintain mid-pack, which was frustrating. We've got the issues under control now, thankfully.

AST tester Chris Mayfield stunned the field with 285s that fit an E36! He was fast and finished 3rd

It was a nice break in the hot summer season and a good reality check for the performance of the car, so I'm glad we went.

I have seen your M3 with 265s... so how did he legally fit 285s?

ps: The car looks very flat.

The 265/35/18 is 25.3 inches tall. The 285/30/18 is only 24.8 inches tall. Most of the issues we had were with height. It fits better than our 265s did, its just that nobody has tried 285s on these yet. Sure, it rubs a little on the inside, but not illegally so. He had to run a lot of rear camber also.

This is what the STAC intended when they allowed 285s for 2WD cars. Will it beat a well setup AWD car? No, but it might trophy this year. It'll be fun to watch.

Like Terry said - Lots of camber in the rear (at least compared to the "usual"), extra ride height, and relatively stiff springs. They don't "fit" so much as I have just moved everything around enough to minimize the rubbing.

I didn't touch the tires to go from the 265mm Dunlops to the 285mm Yoks, just did alignment and ride height work. Already sent my letter to the SEB asking for clarification on the fender rolling rule because I was told that I "would" be protested at nats with this setup. Funny, since the fenders weren't touched and nobody ever had a problem with them before. Oh well. It's about time that rule got fixed anyways.

I suspect that at Lincoln I'll have a reasonable chance of doing well. Low elevation = goodness.
