Re: TAMSCC 40th Reunion and AGGIECROSS

    Yay!

I was contacted by the organizers a while back about helping and I (as politely and nicely and all as possilbe) strongly suggested Todd for either event master or grid master or both. Zimmer and Pranav for timing and Cain for TWS/Reuniongroup relations. I was afraid to say anything out loud as if it DIDN'T happen I'd be crying wolf (or...aggiecross).

Anyway, way happy they seem to be on the right path and I'm glad the event is a go.

Amen, brother. Maybe the Farris/Fair/Weiss/Tye era can do the 45th!! I'll be glad to help.

Ditto on the Fair-Timecapsule-Collection. Get that stuff on DVD!!!!

FWIW, Neil Roberts is flying in also.

      Whoops forgot to post this..

On the tamscc thread they said they still need some cars...plenty of time to get some VOMO cars out there all stickered up.

the event is not cancelled. Sat down with the organizers tonight and worked out some details. I will be running grid and the event will run as it did when we ran them in the early 90s except it will be on the 2.9 course. Classing is simplistic but who cares. Other than that, it would be cool to get as many people of our era together as possible so generate some names and contacts and pass the word. Personally, it is only f'd up if we don't get our friends to the party!!!!!

What would be really cool is if someone could con Fair into compiling some of the better video onto a dvd/cd for some viewing somewhere Sat night or just get him to bring some of the "collection" that he has promised to put on disc!

FWIW, Karl Kueneman aka 'Grog' has been notified. Andrew McMillan is in Corpus Christi and is notified. I think Stinky is still in LaGrange?

Holy Crap! That is ... surprisingly great news. And a 180° reversal from what I was told on the phone days ago.

Well, as I told Lisa, if they could get people like Todd involved in running the Aggiecross event I'll enter. Crap! Now we gotta get people to register quickly! And I need to get the Alpha car repainted...

The email said that check-in is from 3:30-6:30 with the first car out for the lime run at 7 pm . . . I don't know who would want to be in the throw car in the daylight with traffic, but oh well . . .

Re: TAMSCC 40th Reunion and AGGIECROSS

Other than the t-shirt design being pretty crappy, the event was very good. Nice to hear all the stories (how the club started, astronomy club, etc) and OMFG the club can BRING THE HARDWARE.

Old cobra's, corvettes, mustangs, panteras, etc....WHOAH!

Toddles ran grid, it all went smooth. They used stopwatches and were surprisingly close when I sat and watched them. They usually had 5 or 6 cars running at once. Started a little late, but ran until 5:30.

Neil Roberts co-drove my b4c and we each took 4 runs and called it a day. I think they gave 5, but the "racing even't" was basically an excuse to be around cars and other members. Great catered bbq at the track and most folks stayed until dark then the party moved to the marriott.

Sunday was a car show (more talking to members) and then a big catered lunch at the REC center which was nice. I'll be posting a writeup when I can.

                          Next one in 5 years!

yup, they had two small boards with 5 watches mounted on each one. Two folks would start/stop the corresponding watch to the car in a run string (usually 5 cars) and the person writing times would log both times and average them. Neil and I watched for quite a while and they were usually within a half tenth (.05) or so of each other.

The event was more about the group than competition as the $ vs track time ratio is surely beatable but the company was not.

Stop watches?? That's so sums it up right there why I wasn't interested in going as I predicted the timers/racing portion of the event would be a bust based on the lack of any really organization. It sounds like at least Costas/Farris as a few others pulled off at least something resembling a competition at the last minute and I give them big kudos for that. While it seems like the comradery was definitely there and it was a fun weekend, it's supposed to be an A&M Sports Car Club reunion so hard core racing/talking smack is a must for it to be legit. That would be representative of the club I was a part of. Racers, not waxers. To me, you have to have the company & hanging out you talked about PLUS the real competition/track time. I'd throw in an autox on Sunday with the actual current club as well and now that sounds like a great event.

So the next one is in 5 years? I, for one, am volunteering right now to make sure it is pulled off just like I described above. The '70s and '80s generations have had their shot, now it's time for the '90s group(+ Fair/Todd ) to stand up and finally do it right.
