Is it just me... or did it appear that the welds broke on the cage right above his head? Or maybe they weren't welded all the way around?

Wow! That must have gone end over end to crash it up like that in the rear.

I see that part of the cage you are looking at but it appears to be that hard impact roll bar padding to me.

Yea, I noticed the same thing.

That sure looks like a TACK weld in that picture... not a broken weld but never welded. If that's roll cage foam it sure looks like a thin overall tube+pad. And how on earth did he flatten the back of the chassis so MUCH??? ???

He's lucky he is alive. WTF happened to even cause the loss of control? I mean, sure, he's obviously an NDA, but what started this avoidable chain reaction. Did he hook a berm? It had sh!t for shocks, so I doubt it would have taken much. Oh yea, notice the side view pics of the cage. That looks like painted tubing, not padding.

Not that it's really a big deal but I still think it's that hard impact roll bar tubing. I've seen it in cars before and it looks like hard plastic and has bascially no give to it unless of course your head comes into contact with it. Seeing those "chunks" taken out of it also appear like what padding looks like when has been a bit abused, probably from taking stuff in and out of the car.

Also, you mention the silver painted roll bar but over his head you see black which again makes me think he has padding around his halo area. Again, not really a big deal

I'm just glad he walked away and just can't figure out what the heck he hit so hard in the back to cause it to cave in like that. Oh yea, he really was a NDA btw

When I first saw the damage, I assumed that he either did a nose-to-tail somersault, or cartwheel rather than a barrel roll. It looks like the rear end damage was from ground contact. Is that not what it looks like to anyone else?

I thought the same thing. It must have gone end over end to do that to the rear of the car. I don't see how a wall would do that unless it was already airborn.
