Vorshlag Garage Sale - Used Parts!

This is going to be an ongoing thread where we offer second-hand parts for sale from Vorshlag that we have around the shop such as used wheels, take-out BMW motors, and more. We have regular "shop clean-up days" and find things we just need to get rid of. If we haven't touched a particular part in a year, it needs to go away. So you will notice new items being added in batches.

Since we do a lot of engine swaps we end up with extra motors, accessories, transmissions, differentials, wiring harnesses, and other assorted "good stock parts". Vorshlag has been growing at a rapid rate, but the size of our shop is static (for now), which means we are overflowing with stuff to sell.



There are also a lot of leftover tires from various Vorshlag project cars that we have been storing in our climate controlled shop - these need to go away. These prices are for "pick-up" in person, but virtually anything can be shipped - for a cost. Some of these things are bulky and/or heavy and/or very low costs, and it might not make sense to ship them.



As with anything you need to ask us about, please don't just pop a reply into this thread or send a PM - we are listing these on more than one forum, and I am terrible about replying to PMs immediately. Send an e-mail to sales@vorshlag.com for the quickest response. That is a group e-mail read hourly by half a dozen people, and one of us should respond within 24 hours. Again - we will be actively editing the various part for sale posts, so if the ad is still up the item should still be for sale.

I'm asking a favor... please don't clutter up this thread. Before you click that "reply" button, ask yourself - Do I need to reply to this thread? What can I add to this thread that they haven't already? Should I ask if they have "X" part for sale, here? The answer is each of these is very likely: No. So please think twice before cluttering up what will become a somewhat cluttered thread just from all of the parts we're going to post.

Best Way To Pay

We'd prefer to sell most of these items (especially heavy/bulky/cheap things) locally, to avoid shipping hassles and costs. And cash is always a good motivator. Again - correspondence to sales@vorshlag.com is preferred. But e-mail us at the link above and we can handle payment and ship most items. The engines are costly to ship, but smaller parts can be done affordably.

M52 For Sale

This engine has SOLD

For sale today (6/5/2013) is a BMW 2.8L M52 iron block/aluminum headed inline-6 DOHC engine. This longblock came out of a running 1997 BMW 328is coupe with 220K miles on the odometer. This car was a daily driven car most of its life but became an autox car for the last 10K miles. Price is $500 for the complete longblock, and it includes several accessories and other extras (see below for more details).

It ran "fine" right up until we took it out, but the owner just wanted a "fresher", lower mileage long block in his autocross car. We're asking $500 as it sits. Since the "newer" motor we put in his car was a complete longblock with most accessories, this used 1997 M52 includes:

• Water pump, alternator, tensioners, oil filter housing, brackets, plus the serpentine belt
• All engine engine covers, intake manifold, motor mount stand-offs, and the oil pan
• Throttle body, injectors, coils, sensors, and engine side wiring harness

M54 For Sale

For sale today (6/5/2013) is a BMW 3.0L M54 aluminum block/aluminum head inline-6 DOHC engine. With a spun rod bearing... or maybe six spun bearings. The oil pump driveshaft broke and it was run for approximately 60 seconds (an entire autocross run) with zero oil pressure. This came out of a barely running 2001 BMW 330Ci coupe with 105K miles. This was a daily driven car most of its life but became an autox car for the last 3K miles of its use, and it saw a lot of RPMs (7500 rpm redline - really bad idea). Price is $300 for the complete longblock, which needs to be rebuilt to work, and it includes some of the accessories (see below for more details).



This car was owned and campaigned by Vorshlag, where it was both autocrossed (DSP) and tracked (NASA TTD) over 2009-10, setting two NASA TTD records on this stock M54 motor. After the second oil pump drive failure in 2010 we replaced the entire longblock with another M54 from a 2005 330Ci Coupe (in 2012), then sold the car in early 2013.



It ran "fine" right up until the oil pump drive snapped (see above) and now this longblock needs to be rebuilt. This issue actually happened once before, after which new rod bearings and a new oil pump were replaced (and we welded the nut to the oil pump shaft), but it broke again. So the engine is 100% bolted together, since the last oil pump failure (above picture of bearings and sheered oil pump drive was from the first failure). The crank will likely need to be turned .010" and the rods resized, if not more. It will make a good "core block" for someone, or maybe a great mock-up block for an M54 engine swap into an E30 or the like. It comes with all sorts of extra goodies and accessories. We also swapped the 2001 M54 coils into the replacement M54 we kept, so this 2001 motor has the '05 coils (see connector style above). We're asking $300 as it sits. Since the "newer" motor we put into this car was a complete longblock with most accessories, this used 2001 M54 longblock includes:

• Water pump, a/c compressor, power steering pump, tensioners, oil filter housing, and brackets
• All engine engine covers, intake manifold, motor mount stand-offs, and the oil pan
• Throttle body, injectors, coils (2005 model), sensors, and engine side wiring harness

S52 + 5-spd For Sale

For sale today (6/5/2013) is a BMW 3.2L S52 Iron block/aluminum headed inline-6 DOHC engine and transmission from a E36 M3. This S52 engine and 5-spd came out of a running and driving 97 BMW M3 with 126k. We're selling it because this car is getting an LS1 V8 swap. Comes complete with all accessories including wiring harness. This would be a great candidate for an E30 drivetrain swap, or to upgrade your non-M E36 to the S52 engine? This drivetrain was a 100% daily driven car and has never seen an autocross event or track day. Price is $3230 for the complete longblock and transmission and includes all of the accessories, wiring, and computer (see below for more details).

The engine ran strong and the 5-spd manual shifted well before it was removed from the chassis, after we repaired the #6 spark plug. You see, the car had a spark plug thread hole that was damaged, so we repaired #6 with a TimeSert insert, and all work was performed here at Vorshlag (see this video to understand what a TimeSert repair involves). After the repair we drove the car for several days and it ran great. The driving video below was taken after the test drive period, when the repair was proven to be effective. This is a common repair that even BMW does when they have a frozen spark plug thread issue.

This is a complete M3 drivetrain, with the 3.2L engine, matching 5-spd transmission, clutch/pp, wiring harness and even the BMW computer (DME). This engine comes with all accessories and brackets. Since the new LS1 V8 r we put into this car included all new accessories, brackets and wiring harness, this used 1997 S52 drivetrain includes:

• Water pump, a/c compressor, power steering pump, alternator, tensioners, oil filter housing, brackets, and belts.
• All engine engine covers, intake manifold, motor mount stand-offs, and the oil pan
• Throttle body, injectors, coils , sensors, and engine side wiring harness and body side wiring harness + the matching DME
• The transmission, trans crossmember, shifter, driveshaft, clutch, pressure plate and bell housing.
