Possible Renault-Nissan buyout/merger with GM!?!? WHOA, this is THE big auto news of the year, if it is for real.

Kerkorian has some big brass ones to propose a buyout by some Frenchies. Wagoner would rather die than admit defeat to the French.

I think it will take something drastic like this (or a similar foreign buyout, ala: Daimler-Chrysler) to stem the arterial bleeding that is going on within GM and its owned vendors/subsidiaries...

Just look at the turn around at Nissan. 6-7 years ago they were in the CRAPPER. Renault itself is a bit of a mess, but they did a number at Nissan - the important parts seem to be working and profitable.

Yea, I hear ya. I said the same thing when more than a few magazines picked the $80-90K '05 P-911 to $45-50K '05 Corvette Z51s. The P-car was slower, heavier, yet cost twice as much and had HORRIFIC depreciation. P cars are for a special lot of drivers...

The depreciation on the Autoweek long term test of a 2005 Porsche 911 Carrera S was something on the order of: $90,555 purchase price with $58,725 trade-in value approx. 12 months later. It worked out to $1.12 per mile in depreciation costs alone!!! To own a modern Porsche you have to have no cares about wasting money. By the same token, that oft compared 2005 Corvette Z51 we owned for 11 months was sold for about $2000 less than the MSRP. Hmm.

Notice how none of the magazine farts that fawn all over P cars actually own them? They're all broke-d!ck journalists driving 40 year old Triumphs and ragged out Saabs... This is why I put very little stock in what they write about or test. (cough... tire tests... cough)

How did "partnership" get translated into buyout/merger?

True, but the Mercedes Benz "relationship" with Chrysler quickly became a buyout...

That is more like what GM needs, and what I suspect Kerkorian is gunning for. He's brokering this deal with Renault-Nissan, just like he brokered the DC merger (and made a killing off of).

You are right, I am reading a lot into this news article. More than likely will happen.
