We have made a number of custom strut kits and spring perches for SCCA Street class autocross competitors. Before we do, we caution potential buyers that a suspension built to be competitive in that class is rarely good at anything else. And with the fickle class changing of the SCCA, their car may be buried in another class, or have an overdog classed above it with the next rules iteration. If you are gunning for a National Championship with your car, then this is the right path. But if this is a casual endeavor, there may be a set of stock style replacements that could work.
That said, if you want to go forward with a MCS kit, depending on the model, we do require some parts to start with. If you need us to source the parts, we can buy them from the manufacturer and pass the costs on.
A core set of front struts to harvest the spring perches from, and to verify length measurements.
A pair of stock front springs
A set of stock front and rear top mounts (we would prefer new items)
Either stock or shorter than stock replacement bump stops
The MCS struts will be built to rules for strut lengths, which is longer than the standard MCS struts. This length will not be able to be lowered as much as the standard model in the future as we frequently have these built without any height adjustment threads, and would have to be revalved to accept any spring other than the stock spring.
MCS can usually accommodate the custom lengths at no additional cost relative to their regular dampers, but we do charge for any custom work involving the spring perch. Sometimes we can press off the stock perch and have MCS make the strut housing so it can be easily pressed on the MCS. Sometimes we have to machine or weld up the new perch. We charge $115 per hour for that work, which could be anywhere from 15 minutes to four hours depending on the perch requirements.
A recent double adjustable MCS we built for a BMW E46 with stock spring, perch, top mount and bump stop.
Welded up OEM S197 Mustang perches
BMW E90 machined lower perch
BRZ/FRS GT86 Dampers with perches ready-made by MCS
